  • Lets durability test the Oppo Find N! Sign up for Stamps.com at: www.Stamps.com/jerryrig for a special offer that includes a 4-week trial, free postage, and a digital scale. No long-term commitments or contracts. Folding phones are pretty awesome. Seeing pixles wrap around a radius is still mind blowing futuristic. With so many brands using flexible displays these days, its important to know which folding smartphones can survive, and which folding smartphones.... dont survive. Its time to test the new Oppo Find X.

@Felik Kusuma Wardana No, because that's overall too small when opened. What i mean is a phone that's pretty much normal sized already when closed but have 16-21:9 screen ratio when opened. Flip is not 'normal sized' when closed.

I gotta say. They nailed the hinge section very well. The durability too! The fragility of the inner screen is still a massive dealbreaker especially at that price tag though. I know it's a folding screen and it needs to fold but you're absolutely right it's still a novelty until that becomes more durable at least.

If only the Oppo Find N had an SD card slot and or dual SIM, and or a headphone jack, this would be the FOLDABLE phone for me!
I love the full screen on the outside, the power button(fingerprint combo) and volume rockers being on the same side, and the smaller footprint compared to the other folding phones!
The rest of the specs are pretty damn awesome! SD 888, 12GB of RAM, and 4,500MaH battery! Pretty healthy numbers! Maybe the next version might have a headphone jack and SD card slot...or maybe I'm just wishfully thinking.

It's still funny how once upon a time we had small phones. Then flip phones were invented so that we can have bigger screen and typing area while maintening that small form factor that let's a phone sit on your front pocket. Then touch screen phones were invented to provide more efficiency and bigger real estate but we went for a full loop and now looking for a way to fold that big screen so that phone can once again fit in your front pocket.

Watching the review on this folding smartphone, I often wonder when someone will give thought to the idea of two smartphones with displays that overlap the sides a bit (and we do have those) and protected with gorilla victus could actually be lined up so perfectly, side-by-side so that you could actually read words that perfectly go from one screen to the other just like this folding phone. That would, obviously, eliminate a folding display made of soft materials. I'd venture to say that I probably could never part with $1500 for this or any other folding smartphone that has a screen that can be easily marred or destroyed with a fingernail or some other stupid thing that might happen to it.

I own a fold 3 but until fold 4 ( or 5)comes around with the s pen and stuff i feel its not so complete , samsung is holding back deliberately taking a page from apple book doing incremental upgrades each year given their market position in foldables. Maybe one day we will have folding screens with a surface layer of bendable glass or other hard material. For me it's not so much the cost, but the durability of the display. I HATE scratches on the display, I replace my hydrogel screen protectors once or twice a year due to the curved display which only works properly with gel type screen protectors.

Products can only get an IP rating after an official IP test, which is not cheap
Even if you meet all requirements, you can't claim the rating without paying for it
So to keep phones affordable, some companies avoid IP ratings, but that doesn't mean they don't meet the same requirements

I think you can actually protect the 2 sides and the electronics inside them from water, water does nothing to the hinge, it is just a combination of stainless steel, alluminium and probably plastics. You just dry it. Sand will get a bit in the hinge I guess and will influence its performance in time (noise etc.). Having a rating means you are confident about your product (and are willing to pay for the testing - the cost will be forwarded to the client).

In regards to folding phones, I wonder if a company will somehow find a way through technology of new technology to blend glass and plastic. Make the two halves glass and the middle, for the hinge, plastic. Just enough to fold the phone. Increasing the scratch resistance of the majority of the inner screen. Only time will tell.

I like this phone for many reasons: comfortable size and not over-sized like most of it's competitors, one hand operatable, pocketable etc. etc. But the million dollar question is if there is an international version available for the world market or only released for the Chinese market ? Hope you'd enlighten us about this. Thanks for you great video.

That first little crack sound trying to fold it backwards had me squeamish. And then Zach kept trying and trying. Very nice job by Oppo on that.

I had the original zflip and enjoyed using it.
    I now have the fold3.
I always look after my phones so both of them have had no issues or damage .
The form factor of the fold3 is strange to start with but I'm used to it.
Using my wife's iPhone 13 pro plus seems strange now and an anti climax.

Xperia x1, Xperia x2, and to a lesser extent Xperia Pro are the best form-factor phones to this day!
Those things were cool, and most importantly, comfortable! I would buy a modern version of it in a jiffy!

@S.ᗩ.ᗰ Uh... Have you ever seen any technology, like, ever? Are you going to complain that all cars have round steering wheels and black tires lol. Phones all do the same thing, and there are only so many ways to put cameras and UI elements where people can easily use them, and people are used to. In this case, the hardware is at least as good as Samsung, and better in some places. Do you think Samsung is copying Apple by removing the headphone jack?

I'd rather have 2 inner glass screens With a seam. Just Like the Microsoft Duo, but with less bugs. I think they could make one with a small enough inner seam that it would be barely noticeable.

    • GyariSan1
      GyariSan1 3 महीने पहले

I don't get it. What's the point of two screens with a seam on the inside? The main benefit of a folding phone is suppose to be able to transform into a tablet when opened. In the future if the Surface Duo uses folding displays, a seam can be digitally achieved as well if the form factor remains the same, rather than on the hardware level.

I have the LG V60 Dual Screen, and I feel it's probably the best folding phone form factor I've seen and handled, because it is a foldable that you don't have to use as a foldable if you don't want to. Since you can just remove the dual screen and use it like a normal phone. Some might say that means it isn't foldable but you still technically fold the phone front and back when you have the dual screen on. which is still pretty cool and always catches the eyes of strangers while I am at work or even just at the grocery store

I'd still want to wait for some sort of glass that makes it so the folded side doesn't get marred by every little thing. I think the small gap that Galaxy has is beneficial, because even if it does cause a slight raise/bump in the middle between the two halves, you could stick a hard glass screen protector on either side to get that hardness without affecting the way it folds.
What annoys me the most about both this and Galaxy's folders is the fact that they're only making two things better with the larger phone: Screen real estate, and battery life. If you've got so much more space to work with, then do something with it - make the higher price justified! I'd love to see what one of the gaming phone companies could do with this shell, adding fans, integrated io, an os integrated controller? Imagine a Nintendo ds emulator on one of these! It's basically ASKING for it!

    • KEN BEE
      KEN BEE 3 महीने पहले

Actually, having the phone fold effectively makes it have even less space than it would if it were a conventional phone.
It's hard to tell unless you're holding one in your hand but a large part of a foldable phone is dedicated to the hinge. That's why the screen on the Galaxy Folds had to be so narrow. And when you factor in having to tack phone components around so that they are only in one half of the phone, it eats up a ton of room. The phone is also already Uber heavy as it is. By necessity.
I do know for fact though that Samsung could have fit an SPen in the Fold 3 but they are holding it back because of the enormous lead rhey have in the market

How about a friggin' SD card slot and headphone jack? You know - basic features that EVERY PHONE should have?
Oh wait, no. Still can't have those features. No headphone jack allowed because companies need to sell overpriced low quality wireless buds, and no SD card allowed because why should the end user be allowed to expand their storage if they need to? Buy a new phone with more storage!
And then there are moronic consumers who praise the removal of these features. 🤦‍♂️

Both the price needs to come down and scratch-resistant internal screens, the folds are far better than the flips. Really want one, but fear it's still going to be many years till they solve the scratch-resistant screen issue and that is a deal-breaker for me. Then when they master that can we please have a double fold. So opens out to a true 10" tablet size.
