So, I can sadly relate to this....as an only child.
My parents often spent their money on other things, so we didn't have a lot.
I would still get things I wanted, like items. But, I often didn't get what I wanted the most. Love and attention.
Anytime I tried to spend time with them they often did whay they wanted, or if I wanted to do something they would say they didn't wanna and do what they want. If I had a question about myself or the world, I would get either a conspiracy theory or get told they don't know and to go away.
I didnt have many friends growing up either. I was often alone, and became depressed at a super young age.
I just wanted a family whom showed they loved me, and wanted to spend time with me, and would actually help me.
But they often would get me things I can do alone and wouldn't help me...ever.
So now I'm an adult who still has no idea what an adult is. And I also have physical and mental health problems because of this.
Even if you don't tell kids anything, they can pick up problems. Please tell your kids stuff. Don't make them learn about their body when they are 18 and WAY too old to be asking stupid questions. (I felt stupid learning about...a lot when I met my current fiance. Turns out you are supposed to change shoes BEFORE they start falling apart as a kid 😶. I felt stupid. Still do.)
